Bali and Australia

Bali and Australia

The photographs below where taken on an instamatic type camera in 1982. It was many years before I started to take photography seriously and the quality is poor. I decided to put them on the site [along with the Canada/USA photo’s] because they show an arc of photography from outright amateurish through to a more professional approach…from ‘point and click’ to first SLR and now digital. They also accompany the stories I have written in the ‘Stories’ category. It took an enormous amount of repair work as they were all quite seriously damaged with scratches and dust marks [some of which that are still visible]. I hope you will view them with this in mind.

I had originally planned to go to Mexico but was put off by some horror stories I’d heard from friends of mine that had been there. When a good friend of mine, Jackie, said she was going to Australia with a 2 week stop over in Bali, I decided that for my first trip beyond Europe, perhaps Australia was a better option.

On arrival at Denpasar airport in Bali, we met Anthony and Hannah and decided to be guided by them as they had been to Bali before. After 2 weeks of relative luxury in Legian, Jackie and I flew on to Sydney. 10 weeks later, after my visa had run out, I returned to Bali by myself for just over 3 weeks of bliss, before returning home.
